KFUM Oslo has not had a VAR decision before, but has thus belonged to the «yes-side» by being neutral. After an extraordinary board meeting on Monday, the club announces that a decision has been made to support video refereeing. The board of KFUM-kameratene believes that it would be wrong to stop VAR now. At the same time, we acknowledge that we have poor time to reach the goal and create sufficient trust in the aid tool. KFUM Oslo therefore wants a thorough evaluation of VAR with accompanying treatment at the Football Association in 2027. The board says it has placed particular emphasis on the audience's experience, sporting views and football's international development. KFUM Oslo believes that good use of VAR reduces the number of incorrect decisions that can have major consequences for the clubs. We agree that VAR was significantly improved during the 2024 season. We believe, however, that there are still great development opportunities. A prerequisite for the board's decision is a plan for further development of VAR as soon as possible. The Oslo club believes that such a plan must be followed by a clear referee professional boost. The goal must be to maintain football as a spontaneous audience and tribune-friendly sport. The fewest possible VAR decisions during a match must therefore be a common ambition. This can only be achieved through professionally competent and secure referees who have sufficient authority on the field. The decision in KFUM means that all 32 top clubs on the men's side have decisions for or against VAR, which is used in Eliteserien and cup finals. Currently, 20 clubs are against VAR, while 12 clubs support the technology before Bodø/Glimt, which is the last club to have an extraordinary annual meeting this evening. Glimt voted no to VAR last year, but the board has proposed the opposite decision this time. These are all the positions: Against VAR are Bodø/Glimt, Brann, Bryne, HamKam, Haugesund, Molde, Rosenborg, Sandefjord, Strømsgodset, Tromsø, Viking, Vålerenga, Kongsvinger, Lillestrøm, Lyn, Mjøndalen, Odd, Skeid, Stabæk and Start. For VAR are Fredrikstad, KFUM, Kristiansund, Sarpsborg, Egersund, Hødd, Moss, Ranheim, Raufoss, Sogndal, Åsane and Aalesund. KFUM Oslo looks forward to seeing how VAR technology develops in the future. The club will continue to work to improve the use of technology and ensure that it becomes a positive part of football. With this decision, KFUM Oslo has taken an important step towards becoming one of the leading clubs in Eliteserien when it comes to the use of VAR technology.
